Ahead of their biggest headline show to date at Castlefield Bowl in Manchester, Shed Seven will be playing a very special warm-up date at Northampton’s Roadmender on Thursday June 28th.

The York five-piece rose to fame in the 1990s and were one of the leading lights of Britpop with two gold albums and 15 Top 40 singles under their belt. They released their fifth album Instant Pleasures last November – their first release since 2001’s Truth Be Told. Instant Pleasures saw enough pre-orders that would have made it a Top 10 chart album every week of 2017. They celebrated the release with the biggest tour of their career, selling over 50,000 tickets across the country – and that was before any fans had heard a note of new music.

Shed Seven will perform at Sounds of The City on Friday June 29th, alongside Reverend & The Makers and The Twang.

Tickets for The Roadmender show go on sale 9am this Friday, April 6th via gigsandtours.com, ticketmaster.co.uk, and theroadmender.com.

The University of Northampton have set up an in-house record label, WMTH Records (We Make Things Happen), announcing local artist Beth Munroe as their first project.

The label, operated by academic Roy Wallace in partnership with the University, begins it’s activities by releasing a four-track EP from Munroe entitled ‘The Euphoria of Losing Everything’ on the April 26th at 6pm, to be available via iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube, and Google Play. This will be accompanied by an EP launch party on May 18th at The Lab [Charles St, Northampton], as part of a full UK & Ireland tour in May & June. The tour is still being booked, but dates in London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Canterbury, Isle of Wight, and more will be announced in due course. Physical copies of the EP will be available to buy at all of the shows.

Beth Munroe is a singer-songwriter working on indietronica [a mix of ambient/electronic indie rock, combining guitar music with elements of IDM/glitch music]. Her influences include CHVRCHES, Lorde, Muse, Bastille, and London Grammar. “I’m so excited to be working with WMTH Records, it’s like a dream come true after so much struggle”, says Munroe. “Roy Wallace is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, as a musician himself he has that clear passion and understanding that’s just priceless. The production team in the studio have done an amazing job in making the EP sound exactly like I hoped it would, and my marketing manager Nicole Drury has looked after everything so perfectly”.

“It is a pleasure working with Beth as she is a truly unique artist”, says Drury. “Her powerful vocals and personal lyrical themes make for very catchy, relatable songs. The process we’ve gone through to get the music to where it is now has been challenging but definitely worth it and I can’t wait to share it with others. Beth should be very proud”.

Ellie McCann is an acoustic folk artist from Bedfordshire, working with third year students at the University of Northampton to record and release her first EP, entitled Long Way From Home. Her EP is being released in April, including songs ‘Elephant In The Room’ and ‘Long Way From Home’, both with hauntingly brilliant vocals. Some of her inspirations include Kate Rusby, Show of Hands, Fleet Foxes, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills &  Nash, and Hunter Hayes.

The first track on the EP, ‘Elephant In The Room’, has superb vocals, beautifully played guitar, and peaceful calming tones throughout. The lyrics are truly remarkable. ‘Ghost Train’ has a certain twang to her vocals bringing a real folk vibe to the song, with some breathtaking backing vocals [also performed by McCann]. ‘Long Way From Home’ includes palm-muting, giving it a real ‘get your lighters out and sway’ vibe. This track also includes powerful, relatable lyrics. The last track is ‘Pickup Truck’, a catchy love song, is sung in such a passionate way you almost feel as if it were you.

She is now in the finals of a competition called New Roots, showcasing young folk artists, and then will go on to perform at folk venues around the UK. She is also participating in Royston Folk clubs showcase.

The Long Way From Home EP is out on Spotify next month; in the meantime you can find her music on her Facebook page.

Raging Speedhorn reunite original line-up for 20th anniversary show

Corby band Raging Speedhorn have announced that they will be regrouping with their original line up on October 6th for a one-off reunion show at the Electric Ballroom in London….

Corby band Raging Speedhorn have announced that they will be regrouping with their original line up on October 6th for a one-off reunion show at the Electric Ballroom in London.

The news comes following on from a successful comeback started in 2014. Since their reformation, the band have tour nationally and internationally, racking up appearances at every major metal festival in the UK and released the comeback album Lost Ritual in 2016. The band see this reunion as a celebration of their twenty-year career. Drummer Gordon Morison had this to say:

“Really happy to announce that we will be celebrating 20years years or Raging Speedhorn on October 6th at the amazing electric ballroom in London with the original band this will never happen again so if you want to see us smash London go get your tickets now.”

Guitarist Gaz Smith, who left the band in 2008, will be returning with original guitarist Tony Loughlin and bassist Darren Smith. Gaz had this to say on the show:

“Starting Raging Speedhorn with the guys twenty years ago changed my life completely. It was and still is a huge part of me. I’ve never really been one for going back, as far as playing music goes, but to celebrate the twentieth anniversary with a special, absolutely one-off show was just too fun a thing to turn down. It’s going to be amazing. I can’t wait!”

Support is set to come from NOLA legends Crowbar, returning sludge demons Charger and Northants noiseniks Scurge. Jim Palmer, guitarist for both Charger and Speedhorn’s current line-up, commented:

“We’re excited to be able to bring the Fuzzbastard that is Charger to this show. It’s gonna be a mega celebration of times gone by and I for one am looking forward to reliving all those memories for one night. We may even have a surprise to reveal for our lineup. Volume over talent!”

The band recenrtly signed with Undergroove Records, and a new 7” is set for release later this year. The band are currently hard at work on their follow up to Lost Ritual.
